Madam President… say it with me.

Today, those who have voted for Donald Trump have insured that Hillary Clinton will be the next president of the United States.

Throughout the course of this presidential primary I have held my peace when it came to speaking directly about Trump’s supporters. I did so in hopes that somehow reason would prevail and Trumpsters would finally see the man for what he is. I can only conclude that they either lack the discernment to do so, or worse, that they personally identify with a corrupt, adulterous, and dishonest megalomaniac.

So today, since there is little point in continuing to tiptoe around the issue, I intend to speak directly to Trump supporters. If you voted for or supported Donald Trump, this is for you.

Here’s what’s going to happen. Donald Trump will lose in the general election. If you had been paying attention to the polls you would know this. Over and over, you kept saying that Donald Trump could win and Ted Cruz could not, and I wondered what your real reason for supporting Trump was. I’ll get to that in a minute, but if you maintain that it was because he had a better chance of winning in the general election than Senator Cruz, you are either a liar, (like your candidate), or a simpleton.

This probably won’t come home to you until your candidate loses in the general election, (if it ever does), but let me explain what you have done: In a year when the best and most uprightly conservative Republican candidate in most of our lifetimes, Ted Cruz, was running for the highest office in the land – in a year when the country desperately needed a good president – you were responsible for derailing the efforts of grassroots conservative warriors to do just that.

We pleaded, reasoned, cited facts – and you would not listen. You persisted in your belief that Trump was your messiah and could do no wrong.

We pleaded, reasoned, cited facts – and you would not listen. You persisted in your belief that Trump was your messiah and could do no wrong. You didn’t want to hear about his moral bankruptcy – his greed, his unrepentant adultery. None of that mattered because he was going to make America great again. You have turned the country over to evil and scorned one of a finite and uncertain number of opportunities to redeem it from destruction. Your guilt is heavy – particularly if you profess any form of Christianity or have ever sat under its teachings.

The guilt you bear does not come from voting for a candidate who will lose and give the White House over to evil – though you had ample reason to know this. Your guilt stems from voting for a candidate who, even if he could win, would still bring disgrace and shame to America. Trump’s evil – to put it bluntly, his wickedness – is well known. You either didn’t care about it or, as I believe is the case with many of you, you like it that way.

And some of you do like it that way. When Ted Cruz got into the race, I thought that finally we, who profess to want a fighter, could all rally around a man who had proven himself to be just that. I was puzzled to see Trump supporters repeating and inventing a myriad of half-baked conspiracy stories about Senator Cruz and his wife Heidi. It was then that I began to realize that, like so many times in human affairs, the issue was not the real issue. You were looking for a reason not to support Ted Cruz. I began to realize that it wasn’t so much passive disregard for his moral character that led you to support Donald Trump, as it was active approval of his wickedness. The trouble with Ted Cruz was that he was too squeaky clean – too honest, too dedicated, and too disgustingly faithful to his first and only wife. You wanted someone who would stick up for your rights, without being upright enough to make you uncomfortable in your sin. To this end you chose a man who recognizes no rights except his own. What? did you expect him to be inconsistent with his beliefs as reflected by his lifestyle?

You wanted someone who would stick up for your rights, without being upright enough to make you uncomfortable in your sin. To this end you chose a man who recognizes no rights except his own.

I can only hope that the impending catastrophe will give you pause to reconsider and to repent of your wickedness. (Yes I stand by the use of that word.) I hope you can fully grasp the enormity of what you have done. I hope, further, that you do it before it’s too late to pull the country back from the brink. God help us.
